This report covers a symposium held in New York in March 2008 and examines the role of the private sector in addressing US homeland security challenges. The key term of the report is "resilience," meaning the ability of the nation to withstand a catastrophic event and quickly return to a state of near normalcy. In particular, the paper highlights four areas that are identified as the critical elements of resilience, namely preparedness, protection, response and recovery. It also stresses the importance of focused leadership and concludes with a set of recommendations.
