Aug 2008

This paper provides an update on international conflicts for August 2008. The author presents brief analyses on the sudden outbreak of violence in Georgia, and the further deterioration in security in Afghanistan and western Pakistan. He argues that the situation in Iraq appears to be showing some further signs of stabilization, but that meanwhile, in developments that were little noticed outside the specialist media, there was evidence that the dispersed al-Qaida movement was increasing its influence in Algeria and Somalia.
