In view of the serious financial situation that has developed in the second half of 2008, this briefing provides an initial analysis of the possible impact of the crisis on security. The author examines consequences of the widening global socio-economic divisions, climate change, resource competition and the counter-productive tendency of powerful elites to maintain security, by military force if necessary.
