This paper explores the security predicament in South Serbia or the Preševo valley, which is a majority Kosovo Albanian region administered by Belgrade. It outlines the political context and chronicles developments there since 2000. Prescribed initiatives by the author intended to calm ethnic tensions include strengthening the multi-ethnic police force, reforming the local media, increasing the number of Albanian representatives in the political process, raising the level of citizen initiatives, and realizing plans for the socio-economic revival of local communities.
