The main article of this issue examines the lessons learned from Afghanistan's history of Arab insurgency. It further discusses the importance of combating terrorist financing at agency and interagency levels; lessons from the September 2007 German terrorist plot; insurgent rhetoric for clarifying the factional structure of the Sunni insurgency in Iraq; the growth of militant Islamist micro-diaspora communities in Spain; and the lessons from Israel’s 2006 war with Hizbollah in Lebanon. It also includes a guest commentary on the return of Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan.
