This paper explores UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, which promises universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene by 2030, and concludes that Africa is currently not on track to meet this goal. In response, the paper focuses on two models – one aggressive, one moderate – in order to assess the costs and benefits of accelerating access to these essentials.
