This paper outlines key aspects of the speech by William Hague given to an audience at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in July 2008. The author focuses on the specific events, policies or plans Hague believes are needed for nuclear disarmament to take place and what pitfalls should be avoided. He then asks whether the speech had gone far enough, whether there are proposals which are flawed or unlikely to be possible in today's international climate, and concludes with an assessment of its contribution to the debate.
