This bulletin provides analysis of two demonstrations in Malaysia in 2007 that challenged the legitimacy of the ruling Barisan National party. The author discusses the opposition's push for electoral reform, the impact of ethnic marginalization and the rights of minority groups, and the government's crackdown on dissenters. The author cautions that if the ruling party fails to reform, tougher times lie ahead for Malaysia.
