This bulletin considers the implications of South Korea's recent change in leadership for various aspects of the South Korea-US relationship, including the proposed Free Trade Agreement and the Six Party talks with North Korea. On 19 December 2007, South Korea democratically elected Lee Myung-Bak, a pro-american conservative. The author argues that President Lee's election is promising for the future of South Korea-US relations and calls on Washington to send unambiguous signals of support to Seoul.
