This issue discusses various approaches to deeper economic integration in East Asia, including regional arrangements, trans-Pacific agreements and global engagement. The author argues that these are complementary paths that should eventually lead to an open global trading system. He concludes that East Asia's aggressive multitrack strategy may be a fast route toward a new global framework.
