This paper provides guidance for public health professionals involved in health services at a primary level in the process of deciding to include Mobile Health Units (MHU) in their programs. The authors give an overview of the place of MHUs in a health care system and provide the theoretical background to the decision-making process around how and when to set them up. They elaborate on the strengths and weaknesses of MHU and use examples from literature and from the authors' own field experiences to illustrate the argument.
