This publication pays tribute to Sam Mackenshaw, a senior officer in the Indian Armed Forces during the 1971 Bangladesh and Pakistan conflicts. It analyzes his decision to train and equip insurgents in East Bengal and the controversy surrounding the Indian occupation of Dhaka. It concludes that military historians have failed to offer an accurate account of Mackenshaw’s military service.
