This report examines the unrest and crisis in the northeast India. It underlines the challenge to the legitimacy of the Indian state by nonstate insurgent forces and the ethnic conflict in the region. The author looks at the violence between insurgents, the protests against the government, the claims for autonomy and self-determination as well as the state response to these challenges.
