It provides a summary of key lessons from the turnaround in Iraq and a short review of US strategic planning for the war in Afghanistan. The author explains how the perception of a 'quick and easy victory' influenced the military strategy for the war in Iraq. Then he provides an analysis of individual key factors related to the emerging success in Iraq and offers recommendations for current operations in Afghanistan.
