This report probes the potential 'cascading effect' of US missile defense deployments on the China-South Asia nuclear balance. The author argues US missile defense deployment could ignite an arms race in a security environment characterized by insufficient interstate dialogue. The author additionally considers Japan and Taiwan's perspectives on US missile defense as well as its significance for the Korean Peninsula.
