This paper investigates a socially optimal anthropogenic intervention in the global carbon cycle. The authors argue that the limiting factor for this intervention is the accumulation of carbon in the atmosphere, which causes global warming. It applies a simplified two-box model to incorporate aspects of the global carbon cycle in a more sophisticated manner than does a simple proportional decay assumption model.
