This paper looks at the special consideration elderly people require in humanitarian aid assistance. It addresses legal instruments, policies and practice, reviews older people's protection and assistance needs and outlines their contribution to protection and assistance. It argues that changes are required in the way essential services are delivered and in how older people are viewed. The author claims that old-age issues need to be mainstreamed into general humanitarian programs.
