This publication examines what the author calls 'Kenya's ammunition problem.' The author argues that there is a systematic unofficial initiative to supply the Turkana pastoralist groups with Kenyan government ammunition. Turkana North District is afflicted by some of the most intense armed violence in the region. The argument is supported by evidence gained from statistical data and field research. The paper concludes, however, that with or without supply of government ammunition, the parties to the conflict will retain access to numerous sources of ammunition because the region is already awash with armaments.
