This issue of the Russian Analytical Digest addresses the economic and social condition of Russia's countryside. It examines the development of agricultural production since the collapse of the USSR in 1991, discussing the perception of endangered food security. Subsequently, it presents the findings of a survey on the material and psychological state of Russia's rural households. The paper argues that Russia is likely to remain a heavy importer of the food it consumes.
