This paper explores the regional and international implications of the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement from an Indian point of view. It introduces and reviews the severe criticism the agreement faced in both the US and India, summarizes the negotiations that finally led to the agreement and identifies the strategic consequences for India. Subsequently, the paper discusses possible implications for the international nuclear regime. The author argues that irrespective of the deal, China and Pakistan will continue with the process of expanding their military arsenals.
