This monograph analyzes the lessons from the Colombian attack against the camp of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia in Ecuador on 1 March 2008. It argues that the combination of weak states, ungoverned space, terrorism and international criminal networks make a mockery of the Westphalian system of international order. The author recommends that the US manage its complex agenda with sensitivity and balance its support for Colombia with equally creative support for Ecuador.
