This paper discusses the state of international relations theory, and argues that it needs to be democratized. The authors propose that the field needs to do several things: integrate with the humanities; engage with the transnational solidarities that emerge through international relations; and place Western concepts and methods within a larger context of global traditions and histories. The paper applies Ang Lee's film, 'Lust/Caution,' as a metaphor for Taiwan-China relations.
