This report discusses diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan in the first half of 2006. It gives a brief historical context and provides insight into the significance of developments between the two nations. The author explores key issues such as nuclear cooperation, trade and energy cooperation, and Pakistan’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Council. She concludes that the prospects for the future of these relations remain a big question mark and that success will depend on how Pakistani leadership controls separatism and violence at home and its coordination of center-state relations.
