This paper describes an approach to therapeutic feeding in emergencies called Community-based Therapeutic Care (CTC). It has been developed to respond to the weaknesses of traditional approaches to therapeutic feeding, which have achieved little improvement in the population-level impact of nutrition interventions. CTC programs aim to treat the entire severely malnourished population, with the majority being treated at home. The aim is to utilize and build on existing capacities, thereby helping to equip communities to deal with future periods of vulnerability.
