This publication addresses the problem that in humanitarian emergencies child education has not traditionally occupied a prominent place. The authors argue for a reappraisal of the position of education in emergency planning. They explore the links between education and the wider protection need of the children it assists. They suggest that, as protection in conflict emerges more clearly as a legitimate humanitarian concern, the role of education as a tool of protection must be more clearly understood.
