This collection of essays looks at 1) whether Sunni Islam provides theological grounds for democratic self-governance; 2) what constitutes blasphemy in Islam and how Islamic legal traditions have been recently manipulated; 3) how Sunni and Shia scholarly thought has evolved before and after the Arab uprisings; 4) how Islamic laws and traditions do not condone the mistreatment of religious minorities; 5) the status of women’s rights in Islamic Law; and 6) the notion of apostasy in Islam and its compatibility with international norms that deal with freedom of belief.
