This publication focuses on the important developments in the Asia-Pacific region. Each chapter examines a bilateral relationship in greater detail, with a special focus on the trends and initiatives shaping the state of bilateral and broader regional relations and stability. Prominent issues include the increased tension between South Korea and Japan over a territorial dispute, the Beijing Olympics and the South Ossetian conflict. There is also a special chapter on campaign statements regarding the region made by the two candidates in the US presidential election race, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama.
