This paper discusses how the role of the US in the international legal system comes under great scrutiny under US President Barack Obama. It provides an overview of international humanitarian law and human rights, paying particular attention to international criminal justice. The authors then discuss how the US can strengthen its legal diplomacy to play a prominent role in the creation and enforcement of international law.
