This report summarizes the discussions from a debate on the value of security strategy reviews. The first part focuses on the question of to what extent NATO can be expected to use its 60th anniversary summit in April 2009 to draw a more detailed map of the West's security interests and commitments. The second part asks whether, with trans-Atlantic relations increasingly complex and volatile, security doctrines such as the European Security Strategy (ESS) are more a potential source of trouble than a foreign policy bedrock.
