This paper addresses what the authors perceive to be a relative decline of the US as a leader in science and technology, particularly as it relates to national security and nuclear weapons and nuclear weapons technology. The authors argue that the government, key federal agencies, the National Nuclear Security Administration and research laboratories should cooperate more effectively in order to sustain the country's edge in science and defense matters. A national strategy must be devised, the authors argue, that prioritizes and allocates investments to address a rapidly changing global environment.
