This paper addresses the London G-20 summit taking place in April 2009 in the context of the global economic crisis. It first identifies two main challenges the summit faces, namely the high expectations of the financial markets and the size of the London agenda ranging from poverty alleviation to climate control. The author hence argues that the agenda needs to be pared back, addressing only urgent questions of international relevance. According to him, this includes the maintenance of international capital flows to the emerging countries which will have trouble attracting funds in an increasingly inward-looking world.
