This issue of the African Journal on Conflict Resolution (AJCR) focuses on the origins of Nigerian conflicts and discusses legal and political dynamics in Nigeria. It consider the practice of hostage-taking in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, as well as the deleterious effects of environmental degradation in the Lake Chad region. It surveys, moreover, obstacles along Nigeria's road to democracy and the emergence of sharia law in Nigeria.
