This JOBS issue addresses how the Baltic states have attempted to ensure their security in a period marked by a volatile international environment. More specifically, the articles focus on 1) the strategies employed by small states to ensure survival in today’s contested security environment; 2) Estonia’s contribution of an infantry company to the Finnish contingent of the Finnish/Irish battalion of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon; 3) how Latvia and Estonia have each sought to balance their territorial defense with military solidarity with their NATO allies; and 4) Lithuania’s efforts to balance territorial and collective defense.
