This paper discusses the state of security in Bangladesh after the mutiny of February 2008. On 25 February 2008 more than 1,000 members of Bangladesh's paramilitary force, the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), staged a mutiny at its headquarters in Dhaka at Pilkhana. By the end of the mutiny, 74 people including 56 officers had lost their lives. The author assesses the destabilizing implications of this incident and gives recommendations for military reform.
