This paper discusses efforts at arms control of small arms and light weapons (SALW) in Africa. It highlights the importance of sub-regional protocols in providing coherent frameworks for African states to control the flow of small arms. It examines the cases of Mauritius and South Africa and identifies the legislative frameworks that guide these two southern African countries in their efforts to control the movement of weapons.
