Did Great Britain or the United States set out to become global hegemonic powers, and is China currently trying to overtake a declining America as the world´s most dominant nation? Second, what can the historical arcs of the British and American empires tell us about China’s future? After analyzing and comparing various economic, diplomatic, governance, military and cultural metrics, this text concludes that Beijing doesn't have a clear plan to rise to global dominance, but then again neither did London or Washington.
