This brief reviews the UK National Security Strategy (NSS) released in 2008 and assesses likely readjustments in terms of government spending in light of the economic recession. The author argues that a shift is needed from an emphasis on resources and legislation in the NSS on terrorism and political violence, together with the core defense budget. He predicts that military spending will be under severe pressure, with socio-economic vulnerabilities coming to the forefront.
