This publication focuses on the important developments in the Asia-Pacific region in the first quarter of 2009. Each chapter examines a bilateral relationship in greater detail, with a special focus on the trends and initiatives shaping the state of bilateral and broader regional relations and stability. Prominent issues include the visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and China, and the launching of a satellite/missile by North Korea. Also discussed are various disputes regarding territorial waters and the dynamic impact on the region of the new Obama Administration.
