This paper reports on a workshop hosted by the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (CSVR). The workshop examined the role ex-combatants play in memorialization processes and post-Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) in South Africa. The paper discusses next steps, stigmatization of ex-combatants, the central role of the government and importance of establishing a ‘veterans’ office.
