This report examines trends of fear and violence, including sexual violence, at a men's correctional center in South Africa. The author shows that violence and the normalization of violence affects the relations between inmates, contributing to coercive sexual violence and problems such as HIV transmission. The report uses survey results from the Boksburg Youth Correctional Centre (BYC) in South Africa conducted between 2004 and 2005.
