This paper explores the relationship between violence that results in and from displacement. Focusing specifically on Africa’s Great Lakes region, the author points to ways in which a transition to stability can break cycles of violence and displacement, generating sustainable peace in individual countries. She highlights the need for this discussion to take place not only in the context of nation states, but also at a regional level.
