This report explores how the unique characteristics of metropolitan areas impact crime in South Africa. It is based on research that was undertaken in four areas within the city of Tshwane. The report shows how the unique characteristics of these four areas impact on crime and provides an overview of existing crime prevention activities in these areas. It considers the gaps and opportunities for intervention by government and civil society to assist local government and communities in planning crime prevention.
