This paper discusses the role of conflict in creating a space to redefine social relations such as gender-based violence. The author shows that gendered human rights violations are not always recognized or adequately dealt with in formal transitional justice processes or in post-conflict reconstruction. The report begins with a definition of gender-based violence and discusses the required inclusion of men in such dialogues. It analyzes the various forms of gender-based violence and its role in transitional justice.
