This report explores government assistance for providing shelter to abused women in South Africa. It begins with an overview of different shelter options available to women and categorizes them as first, second and third-stage housing. The author identifies the role government departments should play regarding policy and funding of appropriate models for women’s shelters. The report identifies where programs and policies fall short and offers recommendations.
