This paper examines the criminal trial of South Africa's deputy president Zuma. The 'Zuma crisis' raises questions for criminal justice in South Africa, including adherence to principles of equality before the law, its relationship to the criminal justice system, and the relevance of popular opinion to the criminal justice system. It highlights the role of the media and the transformation of the judiciary as well as the right to a fair trial. The report concludes by emphasizing the importance of public confidence in political justice systems.
