This paper reports on seminar proceedings to discuss theoretical understanding of xenophobia and implications for policymaking, research and advocacy as well as interventions in South Africa. It examines the 'politics of fear,' the psychology of xenophobia and how it manifests into prejudice. It also touches up forced migration and displacement of people in South Africa. The paper concludes with practical responses to xenophobia, including various strategies.
