This report examines political developments in Egypt in order to asses political processes and reforms in the country. The author analyzes the 2008 municipal and local council elections among other events and factors, for a holistic evaluation of the political situation. This includes an assessment of the human rights situation, the state of press freedom, and the socioeconomic situation in Egypt. The report provides a general overview of the process of political reform in the country since 2002 and reveals that although there have been positive developments, challenges remain and the government could play a bigger role.
