This report explores General Laurent Nkunda's role as a threat to peace and stability in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The author examines Nkunda's role as a military leader, the humanitarian crisis under his leadership, and his ties to Rwanda. The report also explores Nkunda's defiance of army command, the role of his supporters, and future implications of his leadership role. It concludes with possible future scenarios and recommendations, emphasizing the need to urgently manage and complete the demobilization, disarmament and reintegration process.
