This report examines Sierra Leone's progress toward democracy following the end of its civil war in 2002. The author argues that the 2007 elections are critical for the consolidation of Sierra Leone's democratic experiment, as well as its post-conflict reconstruction efforts. The report considers what is at stake from the elections, discusses possible outcomes and emphasizes the important role of a strong and committed president and democratic process to 'heal the scars' of past atrocities.
