This report explores the socioeconomic and political situation in Africa between 2008-2009. It discusses general regional trends in 2008, including contradicting processes of state consolidation and erosion. It also analyzes various conflicts by region, including issues such as food and political insecurity. The report discusses the role of the African Union in conflict management on the continent. It concludes with an analysis of human security challenges in Africa in 2009.
